The Casalecchi estate is one of the partners which , in 1924, founded the Consortium for the protection of the typical wine of Chianti.
The old Chianti Classico recipe (the one which barone Ricasoli codified) had a grape mix of: Sangiovese 75-90 %, Canaiolo 5-10 %, Trebbiano e Malvasia, white grapes, 2-5 %. Today the new Chianti code orders to use plain Sangiovese with minimal amounts (5%) of Cabernet or Merlot. Since 1984 Chianti Classico wine has added a denomination certificate on the label - D.O.C.G - which means its origin is controlled and guaranteed.
